An Update On Maggie

Our Dear Friends:

One of our most favorite movie lines is in “Dances With Wolves”. Some travelers, on their way to settle a homestead, happen upon a tent. Excited to finally see some other folks on the trail, they approach the tent and look in, only to find a man who passed away long ago. Without skipping a beat, the oldest gentleman in the group says in a scratchy voice, “I bet some folks back east are saying “Why don’t he write”. Trust me… it’s pretty funny.

Well, we have not written much in the past several months because things have been quite steady and smooth, and frankly, we‚ve just been enjoying being the  “regular old Bushway’s without a weekly crisis”.  Maggie is doing amazingly well and looking forward to starting Collegium Study Center ( a classical cottage school ) in August, with Dax. Dax just turned 13, entering 8th grade, and is one requirement away from Star Scout. Anna Kathryn and Zoe are totally enjoying this relaxing / non-chaotic summer. And Kathi? Well, she just celebrated her 37th birthday and doesn’t look a day older than 21!

All of that said, I do need to bring everyone up to speed on some things that are “smoldering” in the background.  Maggie continues to have some seizures, which is not a big surprise. For the most part, they’ve been managed by increasing her medicine, especially as she continues to grow and hits puberty. Lately, however, they have moved from the left side of her body to the right side, and that has her neurologist concerned. He’s hoping to nip it in the bud before it gets out of control, which is typically what happens in Maggie’s case. Seizures moving from the left to the right side is not a good thing. We don’t know much more at this point about “why” and what is causing it, and don’t want to go “there” and speculate.

So, Maggie has a sleep deprived EEG this Wednesday morning, followed by an MRI later in the week or next week.  It will likely be several weeks before we hear any of the results. Beyond getting test results back, we have no idea what possible next steps are, if any. Once we get those results back and know what the doctors would like to do next, I’ll send another email out, as well as update Maggie’s web page.

What we covet right now are your prayers, that the results of Maggie’s EEG and MRI would be definitive, and any possible next steps to helping Maggie would be clear. Beyond that, join us in thanking God for an enjoyable, relaxing summer.

In Him, and thanking Him for His Goodness,

Rob Bushway
