What am I reading right now – Blue Like Jazz

Kathi just finished reading Donald Miller’s Blue Like Jazz and has just passed it on to me. I’m on chapter 3 and I have to tell you that it is one of the most refreshing and honest books on the Christian faith that I have read in a long time. His writing style really appeals to me – totally open, honest, and unafraid to speak his heart.

I’d highly recommend it.

Thank you, George

2 years ago when Maggie begin chemo, the elders in our church laid hands on her, annointed her with oil, and prayed with her. Also in that room was George Blouin, a 50+ year old man who dearly loved Christ. George began chemo the same week that Maggie did and they both were prayed over during that time.

Over the past several years, the Lord took Maggie and George on different paths for their trial, but they loved each other, rubbed each others heads, prayed together. George made it a point to come visit Maggie several times in the hospital even while he was feeling his worst. Two friends – a 9 year old girl and a 50+ year old man . The Lord knew what they both needed.

George died yesterday after a long struggle with lymphoma. He was surrounded by family. He will be deeply missed by me and my family – especially Maggie. His strength to persevere was amazing and it strengthened Maggie for her trials.
