What does your family do on Sunday nights?

Our family loves Sunday’s. After attending church, we come home to rest for the day. Kath’s parents normally come over around 3:00 and stay for dinner. Then its’ American Funniest Home videos and Extreme Home Makeover.

Enjoying my writing class

As I’ve shared before, I’m taking a two year class on writing – I am really getting a lot from this and it is proving to be quite the escape. I’m working with The Christian Writers Guild ( www.christianwritersguild.com ) for this class.

I wanted to share with you my assignment #4 “ The Writer as a Wordsmith ” as an example of what I’m working on. I’m using this class to help me work through the book that Maggie and I are writing together.

What are you doing in your life to let that voice within you come out?

1)      Select one of the following psalms, and highlight and record the word pictures, the imagery, used in describing Gos or His actions: Psalm 1

1 Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked
or stand in the way of sinners
or sit in the seat of mockers.

2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
and on his law he meditates day and night.

3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither
.
       Whatever he does prospers.

 4 Not so the wicked!
       They are like chaff
       that the wind blows away
.

5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment,
nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous,
but the way of the wicked will perish.

2)      Write a brief paragraph or poem using at least one word picture to describe God or how He interacts with us.

We want for Him

As a little one longs for her mommy.

Moving from room to room,

Her little heart beating faster with each look

Missing that soft whisper

From her mommy’s lips,

A tear begins to drop

In fear of what she may not find.

Longing for that touch,

Her heart begins to slow

As the smell and shadow of her comfort

Begins to fill the room

Leaping into her touch,

She becomes limp with relief

That she was back in the arms

Of her Joy and Protector

As she rocks the little one’s fears away

A gentle smile takes form,

Knowing that He was always in the room,

His smell and shadow but a glance away

3)      List 10 or more exciting new words you have discovered recently

a.       Origami

b.      Fleeting

c.       Countenance

d.      Seized

e.       Yearning

f.       Shunting

g.      Mobilization

h.      Depth-reaching

i.        Clinging

j.        relishing

4)      Write or copy from something you’ve read

a.       A simple sentence with a powerful action verb

                                                              i.      She lunged toward the little boy who was falling

b.      A sentence with a vivid metaphor

                                                              i.      Her eyes, wide and bright as the morning sun, spoke what her mouth could not utter

c.       A sentence with an unexpected simile

                                                              i.      Like a woman battered and beaten, was this little child in the midst of fear

5)      Write or copy a paragraph that illustrates the use of a transition, an opening topic sentence, a simple sentence, and a complex sentence. Remember, the sooner you’re able to write one yourself, the quicker you’ll become an accomplished writer

Some stuff on Maggie

Maggie just started going to see a counselor to help her begin to work through the past 3 years. She has a tremendous amount of sadness and fear over it all. She thinks about it a great deal. I’m ok with sharing this because we’re going to include alot it in her book that we are working on.

I wanted to share this one piece with you…

The counselor was asking Maggie of all the 5 surgeries, chemo, trips, hospital stays, etc, what was the single worst part of it all – she thought for a second and said “leaving my brother and sisters behind – they could never go with me. I love them so much and that was the worse thing.

What a week…

www.GottaBeMobile.com just launched and it is taking off! Thanks to you all for following me over there.

I’m doing some fun stuff personally – just started my work out regime last week and I’m have a blast. And I’m doing something that is totally unrelated to techology – I’m taking a two year writing class from www.ChristianWritersGuild.com .

I love to write – poems, essays, technical stuff. When God began his work in our family, through Maggie’s trials, it provided a mechanism for me to really write – from the heart. Honestly, it is the only way I know how to communicate.

Continue to look for more personal blog posts from me here. I’ll do my best to keep this updated at least every couple of days.
