Ever heard of the Cregle PenBook Tablet? Me neither. TechRadar, though, posted a link to their tablet and it looks pretty interesting (albeit a bit on the slow side):
- Intel Atom Z530 1.6ghz
- 1gb ram, 2gb max
- 1D touch bar x 2 To specify functions such as control brightness, page up/down, and others
- 16/32gb ssd
- 10.1″ 1024x 600 digitizer. No word on what type of digitizer is supported, but the pen looks nice.
- Windows 7
- Battery life: 6 hours. Supports replaceable battery
No word on pricing or availability. I have inquired about a review unit.

FYI, my company has been trying to reach Cregle for about a week to inquire about becoming a reseller and to BUY a sample. No response to any of our inquiries. They look to be vaporware to our eyes. Do let us know if you actually make contact or are able to test a machine.
Mark: One of my colleagues at another site has also been trying to reach Cregle for a device to review. I’ll ask her what her experience, if any, has been…
For low cost ($99) and note-taking only, the e-ink NoteSlate looks an interesting device – it also has yet to materialize…

@James: can the Noteslate ink and save pdf’s as well?
Are there any reviews on this device yet?
“…my company has been trying to reach Cregle for about a week…”
Mark: My friend reports that she heard from Cregle late last week. Maybe they’re just slow getting back to you? My suggestion would be to keep trying…
@turr I believe it’s only at prototype stage, whether it ever comes to market or is yet another vaporware remains to be seen. Personally I hope they succeed.

Cregle’s PR team has been in touch with me and is working to arrange a review unit
FYI, Cregle finally did get back to us with a bit of data after 3 weeks and 3 attempts to contact them. It appears that the device uses the Wacom digitizer, as hinted at in the photos of the pen.
Mark: Good to hear it. Hopefully, it will be worth the trouble…
So, who is Cregle? Where is the company from? What’s their history?
“…who is Cregle?..”
Sharon: If Rob gets the review unit that he’s been promised (sort of), I’m sure that he’ll provide whatever bio information that he can.
I now have my hands on a Cregle Penbook and my first impressions are very favorable. It is not vaporware and some real thought has gone into this device with regards to ergonomics. I will not steal any of Rob’s thunder because I think he will be posting a review soon. One note — It uses the familiar Wacom digitizer as opposed to the N Trig system adopted by Fujitsu q550, Motion CL900, and the HP Slate 500. It’ll work with any old Wacom stylus. IMO, the N-trig system is okay, but Wacom is better.
Another note about the digitizer. The Wacom stylus shown in the photo is not to the same scale as the tablet. This might cause one to think that the tablet is smaller than it actually is. The Penbook’s actual stylus is a Wacom 6 incher, but it’s thinner and shorter than the one in the photo relative to the tablet next to it. IMO, the Wacom 6 inch plastic stylus is easier and nicer to write with than their 5 inch metallic N-trig competitors.
Any reviews on this tablet? Rob? Mark? Anyone? Did you get your review tablet already rob?
they never sent us their tablet
