HP announced today that their TouchPad tablet will be available beginning July 1 for $499, with preorders starting on June 19. Are you planning on getting one? Me?…Highly likely
Yes, I will be getting one. After using the HP Veer, I am excited about webOS when I extend that to tablets. The tablet game is early and there is a lot of space to play.
Rob, I’m interested in why you might prefer the TouchPad vs the other alternatives (iPad 2, PlayBook, various Android devices). Perhaps this is an upcoming article.
I too am puzzled. Why do vendors like HP not get the message that “It is the price, stupid!” No matter how groundbreaking, feature advanced, spec superior your tablet may be, why would Joe consumer consider Brand X when they can get a “real iPad” for teh same, or sometimes even less? I will do no good for HP o ou its interface/OS superiority – the jet left the runway on iOS apps already (the “train leaving the station” just doesn’t cut it anymore). It has got to beat the iPad on price – by a substantial margin. Otherwise, it is stuck in the same boat as Xoom, Playbook, even Galaxy Tab (the reality of sell through versus delivery to vendors/carriers).
Jeff and dstrauss – I don’t know that I prefer the TouchPad to the iPad until I get my hands on it. However, my experience with the Pre was really good and I liked their interface a great deal.
I’ll be buying mostly to examine the potential of the device in the business space.
